When you first install your hard drive, the manufacturers have their own specific tools before you install any applications. You can go to the manufacturer website and get the tools you need and you might also see some useful instructions there to improve the functionality of the Hardware or how to ensure that the hard drive will work well. 

It is also not recommended to install your hard drive in a hot environment. Keep your hard drive cool at all times. As you use the Computer component, it produces heat. And in the long run if you disregard the heat it will affect the performance of the hard drive and eventually if left unchecked could serious damage to the Components. 

To make sure that your hard drive is functioning okay, do not drop or shake the hard drive while the Personal Computer is still on. So this means you have to be careful moving the Desktop or subjecting it to vibrations. The same is true with your laptop so you should be careful. But to avoid any inconvenience in the future, make sure that you regularly back up your files in your hard drive. You can backup in flash drives, DVDs or in external hard drives. But in case the worse indeed happen, there are recovery software that you could use to get those files lost in case your hard drive failed without you having backed up anything. 

Once you have your hard drive going, you need to take better care for it on the digital file side. Learn to organize your files to avoid any file corruption. The damaged files could affect your Hardware by created bad sectors. Also, it would be great to have an anti-virus scanner installed so you can avoid file infections which can be potentially dangerous to the integrity of your hard drive. Aside from corruption of files, sudden interruption of even simple processes like transferring of files can affect the physical health of your hard drive. The same can be said when power was suddenly cut during processing or when you were using an application. The software could become corrupted and that could be transferred as physical damage on the hard drive.

CCTV systems are like a machine. Each different part of the machine, cameras, housings, mounts, cables and connectors, multiplexer, recorder and monitor are all individual parts of a single machine. Should any one of the parts fail, the machine is broken and won’t perform its intended job. The only way to insure that the machine will work correctly and perform the intended job is through CCTV maintenance.

Your car requires periodic preventative maintenance; you change the oil and filters. You follow the service recommendations in the owners’ manual. This is periodic maintenance. The CCTV system needs periodic CCTV maintenance also. The mounts that the cameras and monitors are hung from need to be inspected to insure bolts are tight and the mount is safe. The camera housing needs to be inspected to insure that it is watertight. The fan for cooling the inside of the housing and the heater to heat the housing must be checked to make sure that they are working properly. A camera that becomes too hot or too cold will have a shorter lifespan than one that is kept in proper operating temperatures.

Heat or sunlight can cause the insulation of the cables that run to the camera to become deteriorated should they not be protected from the environment. This deterioration of the cables will lead to an unusable video picture. Head end equipment, multiplexer, recorder and monitor must all be cleaned periodically. Dust that can accumulate in vent holes will shorten the life span of any electronic component by reducing the air flow through the vent holes. The heads on video tape recorders must have a periodic cleaning. As the tape runs across the heads it can leave deposits on the heads. If these deposits become heavy enough, the video signal will not record on the tape leaving the owner with a blank tape instead of a tape filled with data.

These maintenance contracts insure that inspections are made of all the CCTV equipment in the CCTV system and that the system is functioning the way that it should. Many CCTV maintenance contracts also insure against the failure of any component in the system and that the failed component will be replaced.
